Tools of the trade

What do you need to edit airports or scenery? All kinds of stuff it seems. But the main tools are: OverlayEditor, WorldEditor, ac3d (3D software) and an image editing software, I use Photoshop.

It is all a combination of software and scripting. And it is a lot of work for a novice to find the right way. I strugled for weeks before I was able to just have a clear picture of how everything worked together. The main problem is that all the information is scattered around in different places. Once you have gathered the information you are set to go.

I will post some simple tutorials on how to do a few things I had problems with understanding. But if you have questions, write it here and I will try to answer you.

Important: All use of images in X-plane have to be in the power of two 1024 x 1024 pixels or 2048 x 2048 pixels to work. Sadly 2048 is the upper limit for X-Plane. So what do you use images for? Well, all 3D work needs texture, and if you are making polygons for the ground you need images.

And the most important link for developers is THIS.
